Police divers search water for a missing electrician

Police divers searched the waters off Sparrows Point yesterday for a 51-year-old Bethlehem Steel Corp. electrician who was believed to be missing.

The electrician was last seen on Pier 1, installing some temporary lighting, shortly after midnight yesterday, said G. Ted Baldwin, a company spokesman. A co-worker reported him missing early yesterday after he did not sign out, said Mr. Baldwin. The missing worker's name was not divulged.

Baltimore County firefighters sent their marine patrol out at 9 a.m. yesterday, but could find nothing. Mr. Baldwin said the search was continuing last night.

"It's not known whether he went into the water," said Mr. Baldwin, who said police search dogs were also being used in the effort. "As far as we know at this point, he's missing."

The man was supposed to have worked yesterday but did not appear, Mr. Baldwin said.
