Los Angeles Dodgers -- Agreed to terms with P John DaSilva on a one-year contract.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Announced retirement of 2B Jim Gantner, who will remain with the club as both a major- and minor-league infield instructor.

New York Mets -- Agreed to terms with C Brook Fordyce and P Juan Castillo on one-year contracts.

Seattle Mariners -- Agreed to contracts with P Bobby Ayala, P Roger Salkeld and C Bill Haselman.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Agreed to terms with P Pat Hentgen ($500,000), IF Ed Sprague ($500,000) and IF Eddie Zosky ($127,500) on one-year contracts.


Los Angeles Clippers -- Suspended G Ron Harper one game without pay.

Ohio State -- Announced the retirement of AD James L. Jones, effective at the end of June.


Chicago Bears -- Signed G Mark Bortz to a two-year contract worth $2.25 million.

Cleveland Browns -- Agreed to terms with QB Vinny Testaverde on a six-year contract.

Detroit Lions -- Signed QB Chuck Long.

Green Bay Packers -- Announced the retirement of LB Brian Noble, who will announce Packers preseason games on TV.

New York Giants -- Announced that WR Chris Calloway, an unrestricted free agent, underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back.

Seattle Seahawks -- Announced the retirements of RB Rueben Mayes and C Grant Feasel. Waived LB Ray Berry and LB Dino Hackett.

CFL -- Awarded a franchise to be located in Shreveport, La., and to begin play in the 1994 season to Bernard and Lonie Glieberman. Announced that the team will be known as the Pirates.

Edmonton Eskimos (CFL) -- Named Joe Paopao an offensive assistant.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL) -- Named Mike Roach assistant coach.

Detroit Drive (AFL) -- Mike Ilitch sold team to commissioner Joe O'Hara.


Toronto Maple Leafs -- Assigned C Yanic Perreault to AHL John's.

Washington Capitals -- Announced that Terry Murray has been sent on loan to the Florida Panthers and will coach IHL Cincinnati for the remainder of the season.

Horse racing Aqueduct -- Stewards suspended trainer Horace Armstrong 60 days because Phenylbutazone, a banned substance, was found the post-race test of King of Kolchis on Nov. 22.
