Another night, another championship for Perry Hall.
No. 8 Perry Hall, which won the Baltimore County title Tuesday, won the final three matches to score a come-from-behind 38-24 victory over No. 9 Eastern Technical and capture the Class 3A-4A North Region championship last night at Randallstown.
Perry Hall (16-0) advances to the Class 3A-4A state semifinals Saturday at Westminster.
Neither team led by more than eight and the lead changed hands six times. This was Perry Hall's third straight night of wrestling, and the Gators needed to work.
"It's tough to stay sharp three nights in a row," said Perry Hall coach Al Miller, whose team beat Eastern by 15 for the county title Tuesday. "It's hard to keep your edge, [but] when we had to have it, we had it."
Perry Hall began to roll after Rex Marshall (160 pounds) gave Easterna 24-22 lead with a 5-3 overtime victory over Doug Clark. Marshall scored a takedown 23 seconds into overtime.
Joe Farinetti (171) then topped Jason Sergotick, 12-4, to give the Gators a two-point lead. Jeff Taylor (189) sealed the victory by pinning Adam Rhea at 4:39.
"I was going for six," said Taylor (28-3 with 25 pins). "I knew that would take a lot of pressure off our heavyweight."
It did take pressure off of Jesse Moore, but he won anyway, pinning Ira McCullough at 3:36.
Both teams struggled to reach the finals. Perry Hall won the final five matches to rally from a nine-point deficit for a 42-27 victory over fourth-seeded Howard.
Eastern Technical had even more trouble. The Mavericks spotted third-seeded Franklin a 21-0 lead before taking the final four matches for a 31-30 victory.
