Cab driver is robbed of money, keys

A B&R; cab driver was robbed of $70 and the keys to his cab Friday night by a man who threatened to "blow his head off" after being taken to Fourth Avenue and Marshall Road, county police said.

Thomas D. Wood, 37, had picked up a fare about 8:40 p.m. Friday night at a Giant Food store located on Ritchie Highway at Shelly Road. The man asked Mr. Wood to take him to the 200 block of Fourth Ave.

Upon their arrival, the passenger placed an object against the right side of Mr. Wood's neck. "This is a robbery, man. Give me the keys," the suspect reportedly told Mr. Wood. "Don't do anything stupid or I'll blow your head off."

After taking the victim's keys, the man ordered Mr. Wood, "Give me the money." The cab driver handed $70 to the suspect, who fled on foot south on Marshall Road.

Police searched the area with a K-9 unit but did not find the suspect, who was described as white, in his mid-20s, weighing 160 to 170 pounds, with medium-length brown hair and a "round face with blemishes."

Police said he wore a blue jacket, blue jeans and a blue baseball-type cap, and had several days' beard growth.
