County police arrested a 16-year-old Baltimore youth last night and charged him with multiple counts of car theft and tampering with automobiles.

The teen was one of three who police say was breaking into cars in the 700 block of Wimmer Road about 7:40 p.m., when officers from the Northern District responded.

Officers later saw three suspects getting out of a car on 6th Avenue near Hamlen Road in Glen Burnie, the police report said.

The youths ran after spotting the patrol car, police said. Police gave chase and caught the 16-year-old. Police said warrants are being sought on the other two youths.

Woman is mugged, robbed of her purse

A 44-year-old Glen Burnie woman was robbed of her purse and suffered head injuries after she was thrown to the ground by a mugger last night, police said.

The 7:13 p.m. incident happened in the parking lot of the Chesapeake Square Shopping Center. Linda Mitten was walking with her father along the east side of the Western Auto store and was about to get into her car, when a man walked up behind her and grabbed her purse.

She began to struggle with the man and managed to grab him before he threw her to the ground, police said. He hit Ms. Mitten's head several times on the pavement and demanded that she give up the purse. He then snatched the purse

and ran behind the Western Auto Store.

Police described the suspect as a black male about 6 feet tall, thin, and wearing navy blue utility jacket, shirt and pants. He was also wearing a black knit cap and might be in his 30s, police said.

Ms. Mitten was treated at Harbor Hospital Center for a bump on the head and swelling around her eye.
