The Yingling-Ridgely Ladies Auxiliary #7472 to the Veterans of Foreign Wars is sponsoring a patriotic contest for preschool children and other contests for children through the ninth grade.
Preschool children can enter the Pledge of Allegiance coloring book contest.
The Americanism scrapbook contest for grades one through three should include scenes that focus on the flag, the Statue of Liberty, Fort McHenry and the bald eagle. The scrapbook must contain 10 pages, five front and five back, on standard sized paper with a cover made of construction paper and a picture of the flag on the cover. The child's name, school and grade should be put on the back page.
Grades four to six can participate in the patriotic theme art contest. Art should reflect a patriotic theme and must be on poster board no smaller than 8 by 10 inches and no larger than 18 by 24 inches. the child's name, school and grade should be on the back of the poster.
In grades seven to nine, children can participate in an essay contest with the theme "What America Means to Me." The essay must be legibly written or typed on an 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper, consisting of 200 to 300 words.
All entries are due Feb. 10.
