Holland may seek county post

Pasadena Councilman Carl G. Holland said yesterday that at the urging of "prominent" Republicans in the county, he may run for county executive.

Mr. Holland, who is completing his first term on the council, said he refused when first approached about three months ago. But he was asked again earlier this month and said he will come back with an answer by early March.

"I don't know what's happened, if they're dissatisfied with the candidates that have come forward. But I told them, out of courtesy, I'd consider it," Mr. Holland said.

Del. John Gary, a Millersville Republican, is the only declared GOP candidate for county executive. Former Del. John Leopold has said he is considering a run for the post.

Mr. Holland would not say who approached him, but described them as "independent Republicans who are very prominent in the party."

"None of them holds an office, central committee or elective office," he said. "It's just people who have the upmost interest in the Republican Party in Anne Arundel County."
