W. Maryland blocks record 13 shots, rolls, 71-36

IMMACULATA, PA. — Sandi DeJager scored 19 points and Western Maryland (7-2, 3-1) blocked a school-record 13 shots as the Green Terrors downed Bryn Mawr (3-7, 0-5), 71-36, in a Centennial Conference game yesterday in Westminster.

Freshman forward DeJager made nine of 13 shots from the field. Senior guard Sue Head added 14 points and five assists for the Green Terrors, who won their third straight.


Freshman center Heidi Snyder blocked eight shots to set a Western Maryland single-game record for the second consecutive contest. Snyder, 6 feet 4, also set a school single-season mark for blocks with 35.

Bryn Mawr was led by 14 points each by Gretchen Taucher and Emilie Brondyke.


CND 79, Immaculata 66

IMMACULATA, Pa. -- The backcourt of freshman Amy Dean (John Carroll) and junior Julie Desmond scored 16 and 15 points respectively as the College of Notre Dame (6-7) defeated Immaculata (7-3) at Alumnae Hall.

Navy 83, Colgate 71

Kim Jackson and Kate Wells each scored 17 as Navy (5-8, 1-0) beat Colgate (0-12, 0-3) in Annapolis. Yolanda Ray added 16 points and had 14 rebounds.

Dickinson 71, Washington 37


CHESTERTOWN -- Annie Guzek scored 18 points and pulled down six rebounds and Cindy Porta added 15 points, leading Dickinson (9-3) over Washington (3-7).

Leading 43-28 at halftime, Dickinson outscored Washington, 28-9, in the second half as Washington hit only four of 16 attempts.


Goucher 72, St. Mary's 61

Di Di Cotton scored 17 points and Chanon Watson added 16, leading visiting Goucher College (7-5, 1-1) past St. Mary's (5-6, 0-2) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

Cassandra Clemons had 11 and 13 rebounds for Goucher. Cindy Leeds led St. Mary's with 16 and Cindy Davenport (Old Mill) had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

MSM 64, Long Island 59


BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Junior Susie Rowlyk scored 16 points, including six straight late in the game, to lead Mount St. Mary's (10-2, 6-0) past Long Island-Brooklyn (3-12, 1-4) in a Northeast Conference game.


The win marked the Mountaineers' sixth in a row.

The Mount built a 33-26 halftime edge and held a 42-34 lead with 14:36 left when LIU cut to lead to 42-40.

Siena 61, Loyola 57

Liz Lops with 15 points led three players in double figures as visiting Siena (10-2, 1-0) defeated Loyola in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game. Patty Stoffey led the Greyhounds (3-8, 1-0) with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Potomac 67, Frederick 63



POTOMAC -- Frederick Community College's Lakeisha Cooper scored 13 points in a losing effort against Potomac in a Maryland JUCO league game. Theresa Arnett scored 10 for Frederick (9-3, 7-0).

J.C. Smith 71, Bowie State 69


CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Salema Coaxum led Johnson C. Smith with 18 points and three assists as the Golden Bulls edged Bowie State (7-3, 5-3) in a CIAA conference game. The Bulldogs had a 7-2 run to close to 69-67, then each team scored baskets to end the scoring.

Freshman forward Yolanda Matthews (Milford Mill) scored 18 for Bowie.

Salisbury St. 84, Allentown 74



SALISBURY -- Kim Roth scored 24 points to pace Salisbury State past Allentown. Kristi Kauffman added 15 and Ava Tasker 14 for the Sea Gulls (5-6).

UMES 65, Morgan State 49


PRINCESS ANNE -- UMES (1-9) defeated visiting Morgan State (0-13) behind Robin Pettit's 14 points in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game. Morgan was led by Kaira Warfield's 13 points. The Golden Bears shot 8-for-23 in the first half and trailed at halftime, 31-20.
