State House rally slated against handgun abuse


Members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis will march to the Maryland State House on Monday to participate in a rally against handgun abuse. The rally will feature James S. Brady, White House press secretary under former President Ronald Reagan.

The Rev. Fredric Muir has invited members of other Maryland churches of the Unitarian Universalist Association to participate. Members will meet at the Annapolis church for refreshments, then drive to Navy-Marine Corps Stadium, where the march will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The rally at the State House will begin at 6 p.m.

Annapolis Democrats elect officers

The Annapolis City Democratic Central Committee has elected officers for 1994.

Larry Johnson, representing Ward 5, is the chairman. Joseph Devlin, an at-large member, is the vice chairman.

Douglas Mohler, Ward 1, is the treasurer and Timothy Mennuti, Ward 2, is secretary.

Other members of the committee -- which recruits candidates to run for city office and nominates candidates to fill certain vacancies -- are Gertrude McGowan, Ward 4; Kenneth Kirby, Ward 6; Dorothy Hubbard, Ward 7; and Clarence Johnson, Ward 8.

The central committee is looking for candidates to represent Ward 3. Interested individuals should send a letter or resume to the secretary at 16 Bristol Drive, Annapolis, Md. 21401.

The committee's next meeting is Feb. 1 at the City Hall Annex, Taylor Avenue at West Street.

Post office open for King holiday

The Annapolis post office on Church Circle will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, the Martin Luther King holiday.

* Annapolis: Burglars took antique jewelry and other property from a home in the 2800 block of Carrollton Road in Annapolis between 11:30 a.m. and 7:40 p.m. Wednesday. The value of the property was not known.
