More than 40 firefighters battle Gorman Road fire

More than 40 Howard County firefighters battled flames and subfreezing temperatures early Sunday before extinguishing a house fire that caused an estimated $500,000 in damage.

Bob Thomas, deputy state fire marshal, said that there were no injuries and that the cause of the fire remained under investigation.

The house, in the 10500 block of Gorman Road, belonged to Michael Thomas, who was in Ocean City with his family for the Christmas weekend.

A county fire department spokesman said the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly before 7:30 a.m.
