Women's group seeks volunteers retiree association plans party


The halls have been decked, the holly is just jolly, and now the big countdown is under way.

Just four days left until Christmas. Just remember while you're out running around that Christmas is about being with family and friends.

The Greater Women's Information Network is seeking volunteers help prepare its quarterly publication, raise money and secure corporate sponsors.

The Crofton Association of Retired Persons will kick off the holiday with a party at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Fort Meade Officers Club.

Members are asked to bring a wrapped present suitable for someone in the Crofton Convalescent Center. Sonny Ross will be providing entertainment.

The group is also looking forward to touring the Holocaust Memorial Museum on Jan. 11.

The newly formed Crofton Teen Club held elections of officer at ** its Dec. 15 meeting at Crofton Town Hall.

Congratulations to Brianne French, president; Christina Bonacorsi, vice president; Megan Cully, secretary; and Monica Taylor, treasurer.

Under the leadership of Crofton Police Chief Debbie Boguish, the group has staged the annual Crofton Haunted House and held a dance in November for area youth.

The $2,800 seed money to start the group and pay for programs was made possible by a county grant.

Group organizers hope to have a ski trip in January or February, for which they need more adult chaperons, a spring dance, bowling and a pool party in early summer.

The Belle Air chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is looking for members.

Membership is open to those with an ancestor who served in the American Revolution or provided supplies or public services to the colonies during that period. The group meets once a month.

With Christmas only a few days away, now may be a good time to clean up rooms and plan on getting rid of used but still serviceable clothes, furniture and household items.

Goodwill Industries will be at the Kmart shopping center on Route 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 15 to collect your tax-deductible donations.

Healing Journey, an ecumenical support group for adults whose spouses have died, meets Wednesday at Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church, 1657 Crofton Parkway.

The group is now meeting at 7:30 p.m.

First Baptist Church of Crofton will conduct its traditional live Nativity scene tomorrow, Thursday and Friday.

The program will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The church is on Crofton Parkway.


The call has gone out from the Crofton Athletic Council for a girls lacrosse commissioner.

Time is growing short and without a volunteer leader, the program will have to be canceled.

About 85 girls participate, and it would be a shame to have to turn them away.

If you can help save the program, please call council president Dorie Folstein at 261-3402. The season is only a month or two away, and things need to be planned now!

How about the Crofton Country Club celebration, featuring music by Gene Vincent and the Cadillac Cruisers and guest star Mike El, an Elvis impersonator.

Dinner will be served from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $55 per person for club members and $65 per person for nonmembers.
