Fast breaks: The Bears ended their four-game losing streak by defeating Long Island University, 75-70, Saturday. Morgan State had trailed 66-57 with 6:47 left before closing the game with an 18-4 run. Gerald Jordan had 19 points, Brandon Battle had 17 and Terrance Hunter had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Bears. After Hunter's basket with 18 seconds left broke a tie, Damon Zealous made one foul shot and Jordan made two free throws.

Mount St. Mary's (3-1)

This week: At Georgia Tech, tonight, 7:30; At Florida State, Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Fast breaks: The Mount defeated Bucknell, 74-66, Saturday, to conclude its four-game homestand. Freshman guard Riley Inge, a Proposition 48 player who became eligible at the end of the first semester, contributed 11 points, 10 assists, three rebounds and two steals in his debut at point guard Saturday. Sophomore guard Chris McGuthrie scored 23 and had six assists to lead the Mountaineers. Junior forward Michael Watson added a season-high 17 points, matched his career-best with 14 rebounds and blocked five shots. Watson has three double doubles this season.

UMES (3-3)

This week: At Penn State, tonight, 7:30

Fast breaks: The Hawks were routed by No. 21 Syracuse, 108-71, Saturday. They committed 17 of their 29 turnovers in the first half and missed 15 of 23 shots from the field. UMES, which has lost three of its past four, was led by Zack Allison, who scored 20.


Fast breaks: All five starters reached double digits in scoring as St. Mary's (4-3) defeated Mary Washington (1-5), 81-69, at the USAir Arena on Saturday. Guard Steve Michelotti scored a game-high 18 and Barry Friedman added 16 points and five assists. The Seahawks outscored Mary Washington, 17-0, from the free-throw line in the second half. . . Western Maryland (3-6) was routed by Radford (5-2), 104-62, on Saturday. Rolando Welch led Western Maryland with 24 points and 11 rebounds and Pat Young had 17 points. Radford had a 47-26 advantage in rebounds and held Western Maryland to 33 percent (23-for-69) shooting. . . Scott Newman scored 16 as Frostburg State (6-2) held off Shenandoah (2-4), 80-77, on Saturday. The Bobcats (6-2) didn't get the lead until Newman hit a three-point shot with 16:35 left for a 50-48 lead. Newman was 4-for-6 from three-point range. For Shenandoah (2-4), Shane Clancy's three-point try at the buzzer missed.


Fast breaks: Sophomore guard Becky Meyers scored the go-ahead basket on a layup with 21 seconds left as Towson State (3-2, 2-0) beat North Carolina-Asheville (2-6, 0-2), 71-69, in a Big South game Saturday. . . Jenna Hausvik had career highs in points (22) and rebounds (17) as Navy (2-4) topped St. Francis, N.Y. (3-2), 74-58, in the first round of the Navy Classic on Saturday. . . Senior forward Mandy Woolstenhulme scored 18 as UMBC (2-3) won its second straight, 60-45 over Winthrop on Saturday. . . Coppin State fell to 0-6 with Saturday's 76-40 loss to George Mason (4-4).
