Students: Ann and Ginger Breneman, Rachel Milne, seniors, and Heather Williams, a junior at Arundel High School.

Activity: Ann, Ginger, Rachel and Heather were four of about 90 Arundel students who delivered hand-crafted gifts and sang Christmas carols to the residents of four area nursing homes last Thursday.

The gifts "are really of high quality," says Rachel, 17. "And we receive a grade on them."

The four girls participated last year as well in the annual event, under the direction of Linda Green, an art teacher at Arundel.

Students who volunteer for the project are required to make at least eight ceramic or clay Christmas ornaments for gifts.

Ann, 17, says students get involved because "it makes you feel great about yourself."

And Heather, 16, adds: "Since a lot of people in nursing homes don't have people come visit them often, I thought it would be a nice thing to do.

"Last year, there was a lady who became really attached to me and started to cry when I had to leave. It was really touching.

"I enjoy it a lot, it's a great feeling, and it really brings the students together."
