A 40-year-old Columbia man was robbed at gunpoint as he tried to use a pay phone in Jessup Sunday afternoon, county police said.
At 3:53 p.m., the victim left his car to make a phone call in the 7300 block of Assateague Drive when two men approached him. Once of the suspects drew a gun, while the other searched his pockets, police said.
The two men took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled, leaving the victim unharmed, police said.
The gunman is described as a black male, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds. He wore a green jacket and dark colored jeans. The second suspect was described as a 6-foot, 200-pound black man, wearing a silver and black Raiders athletic jacket, blue jeans and a black knit hat.
Two men charged with making false report
Two men were arrested early yesterday morning after Howard police say they burned a car and reported a fake carjacking in Laurel shortly after midnight.
Nett Franklin Missick, 22, of the 600 block of Madison St. N.W. in Washington, was released on personal recognizance. Onis Anthony Francis, 23, of the 9600 block of Barrel House Road in Laurel, was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. Both were charged with making a false report to police and malicious burning.
At 1:40 a.m. Monday, county officers drove to Mr. Francis' home for a report of an assault. Mr. Missick told police that he ran there after someone pulled him from his 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier, threw gasoline on his face and stole the vehicle.
But after interviewing Mr. Francis, police concluded that the men poured gasoline into the car and set it ablaze on Harding Road. Police say Mr. Missick burned his face and the pair returned to Mr. Francis' home and called police.
After treatment at Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Burn Center, police said, Mr. Missick told them he started the fire. Police said Mr. Francis initially provided them with a false name.
* North Laurel: 9600 block of Barrel House Road: More than $700 in property, including hand tools, was stolen from a blue Dodge Ram on Thursday or Friday.
