Four arrested at Route 140 sobriety checkpoint

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Maryland State Police stopped 1,085 cars on state Route 140 near Leidy Road this weekend in the third sobriety checkpoint in the past year.

The checkpoint occurred from late Friday through early Saturday and resulted in the arrests of four motorists for drunken driving.

State police conducted checkpoints in July and last December at the same location.

State police say they use that location because of alcohol-related crashes that have occurred in the area.

Of the 23 fatalities on Carroll County highways during this year, nine have been alcohol- or drug-related.

There had been 533 DWI arrests made by state troopers as of Saturday in Carroll County, compared with 616 for the same period last year.
