Accomplishments/Interests: John and Brian, seniors at Meade High School, recently headed a successful effort to gather donations and distribute food for Thanksgiving meals for two needy families.
As members of their school's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club, John and Brian oversaw donations provided by other club members and business department students. The club is sponsored by Carol Young, a business and computer teacher at the school.
John is president of the 25-member club, which ran the same program last year. He said the families "were quite pleased" with the outcome.
The son of a career Air Force father, John was born in England and attended high school in Germany during his freshman year.
In addition to his activities with the FBLA, he is a member of the National Honor Society and the Catholic Youth Organization at Our Lady of Peace at Fort Meade and participates in a tutoring program at Sarah's House, a shelter for homeless women and their children.
He plans on attending Frostburg State or Towson State after graduation.
This is the first year Brian, who was voted Student of the Month at Meade last week, has been involved with the FBLA. He got involved through the school's work-study program that allows students to attend school and also work.
Brian commutes by train to work at the Library of Congress in Washington, where he says he does a "little bit of everything, some reference work, and answering questions people have."A member of the youth group at Wesly Grove United Methodist, he plans to continue his work at the Library of Congress after he graduates, going to college part time.
