25 Years Ago (Week of Dec. 1-7, 1968):

* Fire companies from Elkridge, Ellicott City and Savage responded to a fire which completely gutted the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Wright and their three children.

* State Roads Commission Director Jerome Wolff stated that completion of the dualization of Route 29 would be delayed due to the withholding of federal funds for the project.

50 Years Ago (Week of Dec. 5-11, 1943):

* It was announced that the county tax rate for 1944 would be $1.40 per $100 of assessed value. In addition to this basic rate, First District property owners would pay an additional 4 cents for police tax and a water tax ranging from 5 to 25 cents. Second District owners would be charged an additional 9 cents for police. The total levy for the county was $374,134.60.
