Tall tales: '50 Ft. Woman,' 'Colossal Man'

Friday nights are an easy call these days: Fox for "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr." and "The X-Files," then CBS for "Picket Fences." But Comedy Central has big, big plans tonight -- a mock documentary about "The Remake of the Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman," followed by a "Mystery Science Theater 3000" dissection of "The Amazing Colossal Man." Matchmaker, matchmaker, make them a match . . . If they get married, they could have real people standing on top of their wedding cake.

* "Charles Dickens' David Copperfield" (8-10 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- Yeah, sure it is, when it's a cartoon and all the characters are animals. This 1993 musical cartoon stars the voices of Sheena Easton, Howie Mandel, Michael York and Julian Lennon. Out of respect for the memory of his father and the original Dickens novel, I will say no more.

* "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr." (8-9 p.m., WBFF, Channel 45) -- The Swill brothers are back, and Brisco's got 'em -- well, he's after 'em, anyway, in this new episode of my favorite lighthearted TV Western since "The Wild, Wild West." Fox.

* "The X-Files" (9-10 p.m., WBFF, Channel 45) -- And here's my favorite paranormal horror series since "Kolchak, The Night Stalker." This week's episode is about a genetics experiment gone awry, which may be why the leading guest roles are played by siblings, Sabrina and Erika Krievens. Fox.

* "David Foster's Christmas Album" (10-11 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- Who is David Foster? He's the producer-songwriter who produced "Unforgettable" for Natalie Cole, and a guy with enough connections for a do-what-you-want holiday special. Michael Crawford wants to do "O Holy Night," Johnny Mathis wants to do "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," Wynonna wants to do "Blue Christmas," and so on. NBC.

* "Picket Fences" (10-11 p.m., Ch. 10) -- Robert Desiderio guest stars as a man who shoots his own brother but claims it was a mistake. Make no mistake, though: "Picket Fences" is worth watching. CBS.

* "The Remake of Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman" (8-8:30 p.m., COM) -- Martin Mull hosts a mock documentary about tomorrow night's delightful HBO movie.

* "Mystery Science Theater 3000" (8:30-10:30 p.m., COM) -- And the "MST3K" wise guys (and wiser robots) host a really big show: "The Amazing Colossal Man." Which came first, this "Man" or the "50 Ft. Woman"? The "Man," by one year. Isn't that "Amazing"?
