A 23-year-old man was seriously injured yesterday and was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after his motorcycle collided head-on with a pickup truck on Uniontown Road.
William E. Harris of the 800 block of Cinnamon Ridge Road in Cockeysville was driving his motorcycle east on Uniontown Road about 9:30 a.m. when he crashed into a westbound truck that was turning left in front of him.
City police said Raymond E. Wojick, 62, of Westminster was driving a 1986 GMC truck west on Uniontown Road and had started to turn into the driveway of a house.
Mr. Wojick was charged with failure to grant the right of way.
Mr. Harris, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown over the hood of the truck and landed in the roadway.
Police closed the road between West Main Street and Route 31 for about 30 minutes while emergency medical crews stabilized Mr. Harris and treated compound fractures of his right leg, according to a witness who asked not to be identified.
The witness said the victim was semiconscious while rescue workers tended his injuries.
The state police MedEvac helicopter landed in a field at Route 31 and Uniontown Road to transport the injured man to the hospital.
Mr. Harris was in serious condition at Shock Trauma last night.
