2 charged in Oakland Mills break-in

Howard County police arrested two men early yesterday on a number of theft charges.

Gary Lee Palmer, 24, of the 11900 block of Scaggsville Road in Fulton, is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $95,000 bond. Kenneth Lee Owens, 27, of the 9500 block of Cissel Ave. in Laurel, is being held there on $10,000 bond. Both men are charged with breaking and entering, car theft and theft.

About 3 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a home in the 9200 block of Wintersfield Lane in Oakland Mills to investigate a burglary.

Police say they found Mr. Palmer walking along nearby Log Chain Road with a duffel bag in his hand. The bag was taken from an unlocked van in the resident's driveway, police said.

Car and house keys that had been left in the van were used to enter the home.

Another officer patrolling the neighborhood stopped a van that had been reported stolen from Prince George's County and the driver, Mr. Owens, was arrested.

* Oakland Mills: 5500 block of Thunderhill Road: Vandals climbed through a window to enter the pump house at the community pool and wrote ethnic slurs on the walls between Nov. 24 and Monday.
