Howard County police arrested two adults and three juveniles Thursday morning in attempted armed robberies and thefts in Long Reach and North Laurel.
Michael Aaron Hunt, 18, of Frederick was being held on $25,000 bail at the Howard County Detention Center. Larry William Nelson, 18, of Laurel was being held on $15,000 bond. Two 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old were taken to Thomas J. S. Waxter Children's Center, a juvenile facility in Laurel.
The group was taken into custody on theft, handgun and attempted armed robbery charges, police said. Police said the group had been driving in a truck that was reported stolen in Frederick on Nov. 12.
Police said the group surprised a man sitting in his vehicle in the 6300 block of Tamar Drive just after 2 a.m. Thursday, allegedly ordering him to hand over his wallet while threatening him with a gun. The man's wallet was thrown back at him because it contained no cash, police said.
Next, the suspects went to the Whiskey Bottom community in North Laurel, where they allegedly threatened another man with a gun.
Police caught the group on Barell House Road, where members allegedly had tried to steal another car. Police say the group stole two car stereos in the area, but officers found only tools on the suspects.
