Man reportedly robbed while hitchhiking
A 35-year-old Shady Side man reported to police that two men in a sports car tried to rob him as he was hitchhiking on Route 408 in Lothian on Sunday.
Melvin Bailey of the 1300 block of Scottown Road told police he was hitchhiking at 1:03 a.m. near Lee Jackson Road when the driver of a black Mazda RX7 pulled alongside him.
The passenger leaned out the window, pointed a handgun at him and demanded money, the police report said. Mr. Bailey ran into the woods and the driver sped off.
Police described the gunman as a black man in his mid-20s wearing a gray sweat shirt with a hood. The driver was described only as a black man.
Masked gunmen rob Annapolis restaurant
Two masked gunmen robbed an Annapolis restaurant early yesterday morning, county police reported.
The gunmen walked into Morrison's Cafeteria in the 100 block of Jennifer Road at 7:40 a.m. through an unlocked back door, according to the police report.
They ordered the manager to empty the safe, then forced the manager and four employees into a walk-in freezer. They locked the door and left the restaurant, the police report said.
An employee of Fuddruckers restaurant saw two men leaving Morrison's. One of the men was carrying what looked like a money bag.
When he went into the restaurant, he found the employees in the freezer and unlocked the door, the report said. He then called police.
One gunman was described as a black man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a red ski mask with dark-colored jacket and pants. He was carrying a chrome handgun. The second gunman was described as a black man, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and wearing a black and white bandanna over his face. He was carrying a black handgun, police said.
