WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Germaine Norman's 20-yard return of a blocked punt for a touchdown with 3:03 left capped a 19-point fourth-quarter rally, leading Frostburg State past Wilkes, 26-25, in a Division III opening-round playoff game yesterday.
Joe Machuzak made the block for Frostburg (10-1), when Wilkes attempted to punt from its 21-yard line.
On its next possession, Wilkes (10-1) drove to the Frostburg 46, but on fourth-and-10, Boo Perry's pass fell incomplete with 53 seconds left. Frostburg ran out the clock to secure the victory in its first playoff appearance.
Entering the final quarter, the Bobcats trailed 25-7. Their comeback began with an interception by Darrius Smith at the Wilkes 40, which he returned to the 15. Six plays later, Gil Telleria went in from the 1, reducing the lead to 25-13 with 10:04 left.
The Bobcats next marched 56 yards in five plays, capped by Kevin Bellamy's 14-yard touchdown run. The extra point made it 25-20 with 4:41 left. Wilkes was stopped in three downs by Frostburg. On fourth down, Machuzak blocked Chris Jackson's punt, and Norman recovered and returned it for the winning score.
