Driver dies in crash on Dorsey Road
A 40-year-old Baltimore man was killed and his passenger injured Wednesday night when the car in which they were traveling struck a tree on Dorsey Road, county police said yesterday.
The driver, Jose Garcia of the 200 block of S. High St., apparently was blinded by the lights of an oncoming car while he was heading westbound on Dorsey Road near Ridge Road just before 10 p.m. and lost control.
Police said the car struck a tree. Mr. Garcia was thrown from the car and pinned between the car and the tree. He was pronounced dead on arrival at North Arundel Hospital.
The passenger, John Garcia, 29, also of the 200 block of S. High St., hit his head against the windshield. He was released Wednesday afternoon from the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Crofton Popeye's robbed by 2 men
Two men, one with a handgun, robbed a fast-food restaurant in Crofton Wednesday night, getting away with an undetermined amount of money, county police said yesterday.
Police said the men walked into the Popeye's in the 1000 block of Route 3 North about 8:45 p.m. One pointed a handgun at the store manager, Grace G. Aultman, 48, who was sitting in a booth by herself.
He ordered Ms. Aultman behind the counter and told her to open the cash register, police said. After taking money, the gunman said, "Open the safe," a police report says.
One of the employees ran out the back door and called police from a pay phone at a neighboring McDonald's.
Police dogs tracked the robbers behind the Capital Raceway, but lost the trail in the woods.
One of the robbers was described as a black male, 6 feet 3 inches tall with a slim to medium build with a mustache. He was wearing a black starter jacket and a black knit stocking hat.
A complete description was not available for the second suspect.
