Founding member Richard Graff will be on hand to discuss wine when the new Maryland chapter of the American Institute of Wine and Food holds its gala kickoff tomorrow night at the Hyatt Regency.
"It really is about time" Maryland had an AIWF chapter, says Bob Schindler, co-owner of Pinehurst Gourmet and Spirits Shoppe, nTC who is a co-chairman of the new chapter. "This is the society for people who love wine and food."
The nonprofit educational organization was founded a dozen years ago by Julia Child, Robert Mondavi and Mr. Graff.
"It's the only organization around that deals with chefs, the professional people, and the non-professional people," says Martha Royal, membership director for the group.
Besides wine samplings, the gala will offer hors d'oeuvres and food specialties from around the world, created by Hyatt chefs. The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt, 300 S. Light St. Cost is $35 per person for members and one guest ($45 for nonmembers). Admission is available at the door. For information, call (410) 244-0044.
