Sophomore midfielder Mike Barger scored his first goal of the season with 6:37 left in the second overtime to lift host Loyola over Fairfield, 1-0, for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament championship yesterday.
The victory gave Loyola (18-2-1) its fifth consecutive title and extended its unbeaten streak to 11. Fairfield goalie Anthony Novello had a career-high 16 saves and shut down the Loyola offense until the second overtime.
Loyola goalkeeper Zach Thornton made four saves en route to his 16th shutout of the season.
Four Loyola players were named to the all-tournament team: Chris Sim, Mike Knopaski, Marc Harrison and Dave Briles.
* Dickinson 2, Salisbury State 1: Matt Thompson scored two nTC second-half goals to lead host Dickinson over Salisbury State (11-7-1) in the ECAC South Region championship.
Thompson gave Dickinson a 1-0 lead with 21:08 left. Salisbury State's Eric Viggiano tied the score 12 seconds later. Thompson added the game-winner with 17:55 left in the game on a direct kick.
Dickinson (16-6) outshot Salisbury, 15-14. Dickinson's Todd Smedley made seven saves, one more than Salisbury's Scott Bowers. Salisbury set a school record with 43 goals in a season.
