2 half brothers are charged in shooting of man

Two half brothers were charged with assault with intent to murder yesterday in the shooting of a 28-year-old man during an alleged drug deal in Shady Side, county police said.

David A. Green, of the 5900 block of Swamp Creek Road in Shady Side, was listed in critical condition yesterday at the trauma unit of the Washington Hospital Center in Cheverly.

Police said that Mr. Green suffered a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.

County police said Mr. Green and William Mitchell, 28, of the 5900 block of Rockhold Drive in Deale, went to Nick Road, near Shady Side Road, about 10 p.m. Friday night, allegedly to purchase crack cocaine.

But when one of the alleged sellers threatened the two with a 9 mm handgun, the two jumped in their Mazda pickup truck and drove away, police said. The armed suspect fired one shot that went through the back window and hit Mr. Green, police said.

Mr. Mitchell drove to a nearby house and called police. Detectives arrived a short time later and arrested two suspects.

Daniel Randolph Brown, 18, and Rico Carl Smith, 22, half brothers who live in the 5400 block of Nick Road, were charged with assault with intent to murder and using a handgun in the commission of a felony.
