The holiday bazaar season opens this weekend with three major events.
St. John's United Methodist Church offers a head start for shoppers with "Christmas at the Church" starting today. It will be open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at 1205 Main St.
This event features handmade Victorian decorations, arts and crafts, fast foods and a silent auction. Silver, china, jewelry and art work will be sold at the silent auction until 2 p.m. tomorrow, when the highest bidders will be announced.
The church hall will be decorated for the holidays.
Other bazaars this weekend include:
* The Reese and Community Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will have its annual fall bazaar from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday on the Reese fire grounds along Route 140.
The indoor event will feature 61 vendors selling handmade crafts such as pillows, flower arrangements, crocheted and wooden items, ceramics, candy and home decorations for fall, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Weather permitting, additional vendors will set up on the parking lot. Food available will include hot dogs, barbecue, french fries, soup and beverages.
Parking and admission are free. Parking is not allowed on Route 140.
* Calvary United Methodist Church, 3939 Gamber Road, Finksburg, will have its annual Calvary Caper from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow featuring a yard sale and oyster platters.
This indoor event will have handmade crafts, needlework, baked goods, a children's corner and face painting.
The food platters -- three patted oysters and a beverage -- will be sold from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $6 each. Other foods also will be available.
The Calvary Caper is sponsored by the United Methodist Women to support church programs and mission outreach.
