Maryland suspends DB Green, DT Mack

The University of Maryland announced yesterday that football players Gene Green and Sherrod Mack have been suspended by coach Mark Duffner for violating unspecified team rules.

Green, a junior defensive back, will not return to the team, and Mack, a sophomore defensive tackle, was suspended indefinitely.

Duffner declined to comment about the reasons for his decisions but said both players would remain in school and on scholarship. Green had missed the past two games with a neck sprain after being a part-time starter earlier in the season, and Mack had started the past four games.

"With respect to them, I'd rather not say [why they were suspended]," said Duffner. "It's an internal situation with the team."

Neither player could be reached for comment. The Terps (1-6) had the week off after their first victory of the season and will face top-ranked Florida State a week from today at Byrd Stadium.
