Two men held up an Ellicott City gas station Friday night and escaped in a vehicle police say had been stolen during a carjacking in Baltimore earlier that day.
Around 10:30 p.m., the two men walked into the Stewart Agip gas station in the 5600 block of Old Waterloo Road, displayed a handgun and announced a robbery. One of the men went around the counter and snatched cash from the register.
Police said the men then fled the store in a white Mercury Topaz. An officer on his way to work spotted the car on Route 103, followed the car and attempted to stop the suspects after they had turned on Route 40, driving east on Route 40 toward Baltimore County.
Both men escaped after jumping out of the car in a neighborhood off Rolling Road in Catonsville, police said.
Detectives later found that the car had been stolen during a carjacking earlier that evening in Baltimore.
The first man was described as a black male in his mid- to late-20s, 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing about 210 pounds. He wore a black coat and was armed with a handgun.
Police described his accomplice as a black male, in his mid-20s, 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He wore a red coat, a red and white baseball hat and jeans.
