Terps women top Temple in 2 OTs, 4-1


The 20th-ranked Maryland's women's soccer team tied the club record of 11 wins with a 4-1 double-overtime victory over visiting Temple (5-7-1) yesterday.

Randi Goldblatt got the game-winner in the first overtime.

Stefanie Papageorge and Michelle Demko added goals at 115:27 and 116:12, respectively, for the Terps (11-2-1).

Maryland outshot Temple 29-12. Maryland's Cailin Mullins and Missy Price combined for eight saves.

* Towson State 3, Gardner-Webb 1, 2 OT: Sophomore Courtney McClelland (Dulaney) scored twice to lead host Towson (7-6-0) past Gardner-Webb (6-8-1) in double overtime.

Tigers senior goalkeeper Michelle Robinson (Old Mill) had eight saves.

* Navy 1, Georgetown 0: Patty Despain scored on a pass from Julie Treanor at 23:22 of the second half as visiting Navy (2-4) beat Georgetown (6-5).


Forwards Jimmy Glenn and Wolde Harris scored two goals each to lead No. 5 Clemson (12-2-2, 4-0-1) to a 5-1 win over host Maryland (3-10, 1-4) in the Atlantic Coast Conference. It was the first meeting between Fallston alumni Chris Eatough, Clemson sophomore defender, and Shane Dougherty, Maryland freshman attack.

* Fairleigh Dickinson 2, Mount St. Mary's 1: Steven Fox's goal and assist led Fairleigh Dickinson by visiting Mount St. Mary's (5-8, 2-4) in the Northeast Conference.

* West Virginia 2, Navy 0: Scott Lamb scored at 23:19 and Hobie Wilburg at 80:56 as West Virginia beat visiting Navy.
