ERIN SCHREINER, 13, daughter of Cynthia and Roger Schreiner of Linton Road, Eldersburg.

School: Eighth-grader at Sykesville Middle School.

Honored for: A commitment to service. She has racked up 53 hours of student service hours toward the 75 required by the state for graduation. She also has encouraged other students to join projects.

"From the beginning, she has been one that helped other kids get involved," said Principal Donald Pyles.

She was among several students in her reading class last year to create a children's book and donate it to the Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital.

Erin says she hasn't done much more than other students. But Mr. Pyles said her record stands out.

"She's modest, because real givers usually are modest people," he said.

Erin has helped plant trees at Hashawha Environmental Appreciation Center and in cleaning her church, among other volunteer projects.

Goals: "I want to be a physical therapist so I can help people who are handicapped or have been in an accident," Erin said.

Comments: "I think it's fun, just to help other people," Erin said. "I want to help out at a nursing home next, but I haven't asked my

mother yet."
