Neall to give T-shirts to 'barrier busters'

Members of the Anne Arundel County Access Advisory Committee will receive "Barrier Busters" T-shirts from County Executive Robert R. Neall at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday on the handicap ramp of the Arundel Center, 44 Calvert Street, Annapolis.


The eight-member committee is charged with surveying county buildings and recommending improvements to the Americans with Disabilities Act office.

Golf tournament benefits Sarah's House

Play golf with the Orioles' Jim Poole Tuesday at the Queenstown Harbour Golf Links in Queenstown.

Proceeds from the event, sponsored by Visions for America Inc., will benefit Sarah's House, a homeless shelter in Fort Meade.

The package includes prizes for first through third place, plus lunch and dinner.

The cost is $100 per person; $400 for a foursome; $450 for a corporate sponsorship, which includes a tee sign; and $100 for a tee sponsorship.

Bar association to have food drive

The American Bar Association will participate in National Volunteer Day on Saturday by sponsoring a countywide food drive to restock the shelves of the Severna Park Assistance Network (SPAN).


The Bar Association will collect food a law offices and other locations throughout the county through Thursday.

YWCA volunteers honored at meeting

Three YWCA volunteers were presented with awards at the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County's 72nd Annual Meeting, Sept. 29.

Carola Grubbs received the Maggie Boone Moss Founder's Award for her service in a wide range of activities as a volunteer since the early 1970s.

Kathy Emmert was awarded the Leadership Award for her contributions to the board of directors, where she serves as vice president of program planning.


The Service Award went to Molly Schubert for her work as volunteer in YWCA programs.

Cleaners to collect coats for needy

Annapolis-based Admiral Cleaners' fall "Call for Coats" campaign has started, with all 24 Admiral stores collecting, cleaning and distributing donated coats to the needy.

Coats will be distributed by the Annapolis Housing Authority, Helping Hand, and Sarah's House, in November.

YMCA to sell 1994 coupon books


The YMCA of Anne Arundel County will sell the "Entertainment '94" coupon books for $35 this year to raise money.

Each book contains discounts on dining, movies, sports, hotels and more.

Heart Association plans fund-raiser

The county division of the American Heart Association sponsors its annual gala "Evening Under the Stars" at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Old South Country Club in Lothian.

The fund-raiser includes a silent auction, music, dancing, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

PACT to assess family services

Parents and Children Together (PACT), a community-based family support organization, is joining with hundreds of other family resource programs across the nation to assess the way it delivers services to families.
