A bloody week in Baltimore County got bloodier yesterday when an estranged husband allegedly killed his wife's boyfriend -- in front of a police officer -- and two men shot a young woman in the head as she was walking to a bus stop.
The two unrelated slayings in Woodlawn yesterday followed Saturday's samurai sword killing at a Perry Hall party, Monday's rare double suicide of a mother and son in Halethorpe, and Tuesday's wounding of a bystander during a Catonsville robbery.
In Woodlawn yesterday, police said Officer Andre Davis spotted a suspicious man lurking among parked cars at an apartment complex in the 7100 block of Rolling Bend Road about 5:30 a.m.
Thinking the man was looking for a car to steal, the officer drove closer. As he got out of his cruiser, the officer said, the man suddenly opened the door of a parked Ford Escort, pulled out one of the occupants and shot him once in the head.
The patrolman chased the gunman, and police eventually found him hidden in a nearby trash bin.
Jeffrey Darryl Hunter, 26, of the 9300 block of Guilford Road in Columbia, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Christopher Maurice Campbell, who was seated in the car with Mr. Hunter's wife, Johnique, 18.
Police said Mr. Campbell, 20, of the 6800 block of Liberty Road, had been dating Mrs. Hunter recently. She told police she was in the process of leaving her husband.
Mr. Hunter was being held without bail last night.
Meanwhile, police were looking for two men who shot and killed Janice Stephanie Jones, 24, of the first block of Mount Batten Court, about 7:30 a.m. yesterday. Miss Jones was killed as she was walking on Essex Road near Retinue Court.
Her mother told police Ms. Jones left the house at 7:25 a.m. and was on her way to catch a bus.
Witnesses told police they saw two men running from the area but could not provide descriptions. Nothing was taken from the victim, but police think the attack may have been an attempted robbery.
