Carroll County's liquor board agreed yesterday to add So Kuen Wong to the Golden Palace restaurant's liquor license.
Mrs. Wong and her husband, Kan Yu Wong, have purchased the Westminster restaurant from Frank Kwan Tong Hom.
Mr. Hom, who opened the Golden Palace 16 years ago, will continue to own 10 percent of the business and work part time at the restaurant. He will remain on the liquor license.
"My only concern is that Mr. Hom, at least for a while, make an effort to be there to make sure they [the Wongs] know what is going on," said board member Russell Mayer in voting to approve the license. "But with their experience in the restaurant business, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to make a go of it."
Mr. Wong, the establishment's new chef, testified that he has 15 years of restaurant experience.
His wife said she operated a restaurant in Idaho from 1983 to 1989 that had a liquor license allowing her to serve beer and wine.
The Wongs moved to Westminster from New York about a week ago.
