A 19-year-old Sykesville man who was shot in the thigh after an argument in Frederick on Saturday night remained in fair and stable condition yesterday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Vincent Tyrone Ellis was arguing over jewelry with Gregory Weedon, 44, outside an apartment complex on East Sixth Street when Mr. Weedon went to his apartment and returned with a .22-caliber, two-shot Derringer, Frederick police said.
Mr. Ellis was shot, and his assailant fled into the John Hanson Apartments after tossing the weapon into nearby bushes, police said. Mr. Weedon surrendered a short time later.
He was charged with shooting with intent to maim, attempted second-degree murder, and possession of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure, police said.
Mr. Weedon also was charged with use of a handgun in the commission of a violent crime, assault and battery, reckless endangerment and a handgun violation.
Mr. Weedon's bail was set at $125,000 at a review hearing yesterday. He was being held yesterday at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
Police said the incident was the second shooting at the housing complex within a week.
Investigators are still searching for the man who shot and killed Ricardo Cruz, 19, in front of his wife and two children last week.
