Girl, 15, is accused of false abduction story

County police have charged a 15-year-old Edgewater girl with making a false report for allegedly claiming she was kidnapped on her way to South River High School. Officers also charged a 17-year-old Bowie youth with theft in the incident.

Police said the girl used the kidnapping story to cover up involvement with two others in an automobile accident in a stolen car on Governor's Bridge Road.

According to police, the girl told officers she was walking to school along Mayo Road about 8:30 a.m. Monday when she was forced into a car with five men inside. One of the men reportedly was armed with a sawed-off shotgun.

She told police the men drove her into Prince George's County, where she and two of the men got out of the car at a bus stop in Bowie, the report said.

When a Prince George's County police officer on patrol saw the three and stopped to question them, the men ran into the woods and the girl told the officer her kidnapping story. But after he questioned the girl more closely, he determined that she was lying.

Officers caught the 17-year-old who run into the woods, but they still are looking for the third youth, county police said.
