Severna Park routs Glen Burnie Volleyball

No. 2 Severna Park turned yesterday's battle of unbeatens into an awesome display of power volleyball, hammering its way to a 15-3, 15-2, 15-6 victory over co-No. 9 Glen Burnie.

The Falcons collected 33 kills, led by senior outside hitter Julie Kasprzak with 13. They never trailed, and the best Glen Burnie (6-1) could do were two ties in the first game and one in the third.

"We were just never in the match," said Glen Burnie coach Juanita Milani. "They hit well, they served well, they did everything well, and we missed out on the basic fundamentals of passing. Everything else can be working great, but when you can't pass, you can't hit. Hopefully, they learned from it."

Senior outside hitter Jen Conner had six kills for Severna Park (5-0), winners of the last two Class 4A state championships. Senior Susan Wren had 22 assists and was 13-for-15 serving with three aces.

Senior Holly McKlveen and sophomore Julie Allen each had four kills, and senior Nikki Godfrey was 11-for-14 serving with two aces. Glen Burnie's leader in kills was junior Heather Hutson with three.

"We played them at Old Mill in a tournament at the beginning of the season, and what we saw there wasn't what we saw here," said Kasprzak, who was 16-for-16 serving with four aces. "They were really tough against us at Old Mill."

Not this time.
