25 Years Ago (Week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5, 1968):

* A branch post office opened this week in Columbia in the Teachers building near Lake Kittamaqundi. The new post office would replace the smaller office that had been operating out of the Flower Mart in Wilde Lake Village Center.

* Residents of the Columbia Hills development asked the State Roads Commission to change the planned alignment of the proposed Route 100. In its planned configuration, the proposed merger with Route 29 would cut through the development, leaving 97 homes stranded inside a triangle formed by the road system.

50 Years Ago (Week of Oct. 3-9, 1943):

* Unseasonably warm weather caused lilacs and apple trees to blossom on the Montgomery Road farm of C. J. MacCartee.
