Atholton runs over Hebron, 35-13


Corlando Love ran for 83 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries for Atholton (5-1, 2-1) in a 35-13 victory over visiting Mount Hebron (2-4, 0-3) in a Howard County League game yesterday.

Jason Albert completed 8 of 16 passes for 91 yards for the Raiders, including a 14-yard touchdown to Matt Treese and a 16-yard touchdown to Tony Stewart.

Gilman 18, St. Mary's 16

Third-ranked Gilman got a scare but pulled out an 18-16 win against unranked St. Mary's in Maryland Scholastic Association Armstrong A Conference action at Anne Arundel Community College.

Gilman had outscored its opponents 94-0 prior to yesterday.

Broadneck 28, Laurel 20

Sean Ryan threw for three touchdowns, two to Jason Smith, leading host Broadneck (4-2) past Laurel in a non-league game.

Ryan, the area's leading passer, completed 13 of 28 for 200 yards. Smith, the area's leading receiver, had seven receptions for 127 yards.

Tied at 14 entering the final period, Ryan and Smith connected on a 7-yard pass play. The extra-point kick made it 21-14.

LaPlata 27, South River 14

Booker Coombs rushed 17 times for 170 yards and two touchdowns, leading LaPlata (5-1) past visiting South River in a non-league game. South River led 14-7 at halftime, but Coombs scored his first touchdown from 15 yards.

After D'Angelo Hemsley scored on a 9-yard run, Coombs broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run. Craig Hopkins rushed for 144 yards on 11 carries for South River.

N. Harford 14, John Carroll 13

Sophomore running back Greg Pardew capped a 79-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run and senior running back Matt Rohlfing ran for a two-point conversion to lift visiting North Harford over John Carroll (1-5, 0-3) in a Harford County League game.

Senior quarterback David Westervelt completed 8 of 20 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns and kicked one extra point for John Carroll.
