COLLEGE PARK -- No. 8 Maryland scored three first-half goals and went on to upset No. 2 North Carolina, 4-1, in an Atlantic Coast Conference field hockey game yesterday.
The Terps (10-2, 4-0) scored first at 14:14, when Tara Everly scored off an assist from Shannon Petrick.
Laura Harmon followed at 7:17 with a penalty corner score, and Katie Kauffman added the half's final score at 1:19.
Sabrina Salam scored the Terps' last goal on a penalty stroke nine minutes into the second half.
North Carolina (7-2-2, 1-1) managed only two shots against the Terps, and scored its only goal with 2:22 remaining in the game.
