Boys' Latin holds on, 7-6, as Curley two-point try fails

Brandon Mollett's tackle on a two-point conversion attempt by Archbishop Curley (2-4, 0-2) lifted Boys' Latin (1-3, 1-1) to its first win of the season, 7-6, in a Maryland Scholastic Association Armstrong B Conference game yesterday.

With six minutes left, Curley's Walter Bond picked up a fumbled lateral and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown, bringing the Friars within 7-6. Curley attempted to run for the conversion, but Mollett made the tackle.


The Lakers took a 7-0 lead on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Mike Huddles to Mike Schreiber.

Southwestern 14, Edmondson 0


Antoine Payne scored on a 12-yard run and Terrence Wheeler ran 27 yards for another score, leading Southwestern (1-5, 1-2) past Edmondson (0-5, 0-5) in a Baltimore City 4A League game.

City 34, Southern-B 13

Dwight Banks had seven receptions for 226 yards and Ricky Dangerfield and Corey Simpson each scored a pair of touchdowns, leading No. 1 City past Southern-B in a Baltimore City non-league game.

The victory kept City (6-0) undefeated for the season and extended the area's longest winning streak to 26 games.

Forest Park 6, Walbrook 0

Robert Arthur scored the game's only touchdown in the third quarter, lifting visiting Forest Park (3-3) over Walbrook (2-4) in a Baltimore City non-league game. Arthur, a senior running back, finished with 173 yards on 23 carries.

Dunbar 24, Northern 6

Senior quarterback Rodney Elliott completed nine of 13 passes for 205 yards and one touchdown, leading No. 11 Dunbar (5-1) past visiting Northern (0-6) in a Baltimore City non-league game.


Mervo 30, Douglass 14

Clarence Johnson ran for two touchdowns and Antonio Miller caught two scoring passes from Antoine Johnson, leading Mervo (2-4) over Douglass (2-4) in a Baltimore City non-league game.

St. Paul's 42, Spalding 0

Junior running back Chris Berrier rushed 10 times for 130-yards and two touchdowns as No. 15 St. Paul's (5-1, 2-0) shut out host Spalding (0-5, 0-2) in an MSA B Conference game. Berrier went 6-for-6 in extra point attempts. Seniors Jason Rockwell and Peter Karvounis led the defense with 10 tackles each.

Patterson 29, Carver 0

No. 9 Patterson (6-0) used three touchdown passes from Willie McGirt to beat host Carver (2-4) in a Baltimore City non-league game. McGirt went 15-for-21 for 141 yards. Senior wide receiver Stacy Plater caught eight passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns.


Franklin 38, Lansdowne 12

Kenneth Bialva rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns, lifting Franklin (3-3, 1-0) past visiting Lansdowne (0-6, 0-1), in a Baltimore County 3A-4A League game. Jimmy Mitchell scored on an one-yard run Arron Polischuk return an interception 30 yards and Eric Simon caught a 34-yard scoring pass from Chris Demetrakis.

Kenwood 20, Surrattsville 8

Tony Maddux had three interceptions and rushed for 95 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown, leading Kenwood (3-3) past Surrattsville (0-6) in a non-league contest. Preston Gray scored a 40-yard run and Chris Addicks ran 22 yards for a Kenwood score.

Glen Burnie 20, Arundel 0

Senior running back Ricky Graves ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries as Glen Burnie (3-3, 1-3) blanked visiting Arundel (3-3, 2-1) in an Anne Arundel County 4A League game. Andre Walker added a 42-yard touchdown run, and Courtney Eldridge had two interceptions.


Towson 36, Hereford 0

Andy Matz ran for 103 yards and one score on five carries as Towson (5-1, 3-1) shut down Hereford (1-5, 0-2), in a Baltimore County 1A-2A League game. Tex DeLeon, the area's leading scorer, rushed for two touchdowns for the Generals.

Fallstown 20, Northeast 14

Matt Sutphin led a 20 point comeback as host Fallston (6-0) defeated Northeast (2-4), in a non-league game. Sutphin, a freshman, rushed 15 times for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Overlea 50, Sparrows Point 0

Kenyon Crawford rushed only seven times for 135 yards and one touchdown as No. 4 Overlea (6-0, 4-0) pounded host Sparrows Point (0-3, 0-6) in a Baltimore County 1A-2A game.


Bel Air 41, Havre de Grace 20

Terry Vail rushed 16 times for 243 yards as host Bel Air (3-3, 3-1) defeated Havre de Grace (1-3, 2-4).
