Home Depot workers raise $2,500

Employees from the Glen Burnie Home Depot store, Michael Tsang, Crista Wong, Lloyd Miller, Ellie Wetter, Donna Founteier and Pete Oseika, recently helped raise more than $2,500 for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in a walk-a-thon held at the 150 acre Baltimore Zoo.


According to the manager of the Glen Burnie store, Mike Weaver, "with 24 Home Depot employees from the Glen Burnie, Catonsville, Towson and White Marsh stores participating, the event was a complete success." Slated as "The "Walk on the Wild Side," the event raised more than $140,000 for diabetes research.

The Atlanta-based, Home Depot also contributed $5,000 to the Foundation.


ATA establishes headquarters

ATA Defense Industries Inc., a firm that manufactures live-fire target systems for infantry and armor training, has established headquarters and manufacturing operations in Hanover.

ATA has provided systems for the United States military, including the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army, police forces, and international markets for over 30 years. Other customers include military and police forces throughout the Middle East and Pacific region.

The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation provided assistance to ATA in locating the new 10,000 square-foot headquarters.

Special dividend set by BTR Realty

The board of directors of BTR Realty Inc. recently announced a special dividend of $.58 a share payable now to stockholders of record Sept. 8.

The dividend was declared in anticipation of BTR's conversion into a real estate investment trust. BTR will be merged into Mid-Atlantic Realty Trust, a real estate investment trust formed by BTR.

Gerard Co. gets Navy contract

The Gerard Co. has successfully bid for reassignment of the BBDO/U.S. Navy Classified Recruitment Advertising Placement Contract, worth $6 million over the next five fiscal years.

The Hanover-based company will place over 30,000 classified recruitment advertisements in commercial and college publications around the country, starting Oct. 1.

Other new accounts for the firm include Ecology Services Inc. and Spectacular Cleaning.

The Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed a number of new members.

Whitmore Printing adds 5-color press

Whitmore Printing in Annapolis recently added a five-color press to its range of equipment, giving the firm a total of 16 printing units.

The new Heidelberg GTO can process up to 12,000 sheets an hour.

Whitmore has recently started a new division dedicated to serving small businesses in the Annapolis area.

The new division will handle short run one and two color brochures, newsletters, letterhead and stationery, as well as invitations and announcements and business forms.
