Band to play '50s, '60s music at Gambrills club WEST COUNTY -- Crofton * Odenton * Fort Meade * Gambrills


If you like '50s and '60s music, you will love the Hubcaps appearing at the Gambrills Athletic Club on McKnew Road Sunday, Oct. 24, starting at 7 p.m.

For a donation of $20 a person, you can dance to songs of Sam Cooke, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Danny and the Juniors and more. The admission price includes beer and set-ups and snacks.

A light menu -- hot dogs, barbecue -- will be available.

* Come to McDonalds in the Route 3 median at Crofton for dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, and help the Arundel High School Cheerleaders pay for a trip to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., where they are to perform in the pregame show on New Year's Day.

Part of the receipts from those sales will be donated to the cheerleaders. Information: 672-6927.

* The Gambrills Odenton Recreation Council's annual homecoming festivities will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, with a bonfire at Francis Station Park, off Waugh Chapel Road.

The kick-off for the 75-pound football game is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, with other games to be played at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The cheerleaders will perform at 3 p.m. The concession stand will be open all day, serving hamburgers, hot dogs and specialty sandwiches.

The council also is sponsoring a Halloween Dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Oct. 22 at the Odenton fire hall on Route 175. The doors will open at 8:30 p.m.

Admission will be $25 a couple or $15 for a single. The price includes beer, set-ups, snacks, and entertainment. Costumes are requested but not required. There will be a costume contest, and prizes will be awarded.

* Boy Scout Troop 871 is holding its third annual Apple Butter and Craft Fair Saturday at St. Laurence Church on Route 175 in Jessup.

The fair is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
