Man charged in robbery of Laurel store

A 22-year-old man was charged with robbing a Laurel convenience store late Saturday night, county police reported yesterday.

Police arrested Daniel R. Shockely, of the 400 block of Rhodesdale South in Laurel, after the clerk at a Dash In store identified him as the man who robbed the store at 11:20 p.m., the police report said.

According to police, the robber walked into the store in the 3400 block of Laurel-Fort Meade Road and told the clerk he had a gun and took two $5 bills from the cash register.

Investigators said they were able to find the suspect because a patrol officer said he had stopped him in the neighborhood of the store a few hours before the robbery because he was acting suspicious.

The officer wrote down Mr. Shockely's name and address. The description of the robber fit the description of Mr. Shockely, police said.
