Ellicott City woman is robbed at gunpoint

A 40-year-old Ellicott City woman was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night as she got out of her car to go shopping.

About 9:15 p.m., police said, the victim parked her vehicle in front of a Safeway store at the Normandy Shopping Center in the 8400 block of Route 40.

As soon as she got out, two men approached her, from the front and from the rear. One of the suspects, who was armed with a handgun, demanded the victim's purse and jewelry. When the victim complied, the two men ran away.

No injuries were reported. The woman's property was valued at $500.

The first suspect, who faced the woman and was armed, was described as a white male, around 18 to 20 years old, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with blond hair and a dark shirt. His accomplice was a black male, about 6 feet, 3 inches tall, with a thin build and wearing a baseball cap.


* Ellicott City: 4700 block of Rams Horn Row: A green 1992 Acura Legend with Maryland tags ZRR 273 was stolen between Sept. 20 and Thursday, police said.

9100 block of Route 40: Windows at a Mobil gas station were broken early Saturday morning, but no entry was made, police said.

4300 block of Montgomery Road: Cash and jewelry were stolen from a home Friday after someone entered through an unlocked side door. The residents were in the back yard at the time of the theft.

* Elkridge: 7100 block of Ducketts Lane: A red 1992 Ford F-150 truck with Maryland tags was stolen Wednesday or Thursday.
