County Council to consider list of nominees 5 candidates in running for assessments chief

The County Council will hold a public hearing tonight on its list of nominees for the office of Supervisor of Assessments for Anne Arundel County.

The list of five names, which were submitted by County Executive Robert R. Neall and must be approved by the council, will be forwarded to the state director of assessments and taxation, who makes the final choice.

The nominees include Joseph V. Glorioso, Margaret O. Ness, Katherine R. Nurmi, William F. Smouse and Paula E. Tarbutton.

Former Councilwoman Carole B. Baker's name had been submitted, but was deleted after objections from Councilwoman Diane Evans. Mr. Smouse was nominated in her place.

The council will also sit tonight as the Board of Health, a meeting that is required twice a year by county charter, and will hear a report from county health officials.

The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the Arundel Center in Annapolis.
