W. Maryland falls short at Muhlenberg, 29-27

ALLENTOWN, Pa.-- Sean McCullough completed 17 of 28 passes for 284 yards to propel Muhlenberg past Western Maryland, 29-27, in a Centennial Conference game yesterday.

On the first play from scrimmage after Western Maryland had pulled within 22-20, McCullough hit Rob Lokerson with a short pass that Lokerson turned into a 70-yard touchdown with 3:12 left in the third quarter.

The Green Terrors (1-3, 0-3) rallied once again with a 24-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Brian Van Deusen (Atholton) to wide receiver Alan Pietkiewicz with 32 seconds remaining in the third period, but Western Maryland's lone chance to take the lead fell short when Dung Dinh's 44-yard field goal attempt went wide left midway through the final quarter.

Muhlenberg won back-to-back games for the first time since a three-game winning streak midway through the 1991 season. Western Maryland dropped its third straight, and seventh in the past eight dating back to 1992.
