Silver Run club seeking property tax exemption

Carroll commissioners are considering exempting the Silver Run Community Club Inc. from property taxes on playgrounds and ball fields it operates on Cherrytown Road.

The club owns 3.74 acres and pays about $450 a year in property taxes, Comptroller Eugene C. Curfman said.

He said he wanted to make sure the club qualifies for nonprofit statusbefore granting the exemption.


* Westminster: A Hughes Shop Road resident told police someone scratched the side of his car while it was parked at the 140 Village Shopping Center on Sunday. The damage estimate is $500.

A Pennsylvania Avenue resident reported to police that someone broke into his car and stole articles valued at $23. The theft occurred on August 29.
