Van speeds past school; man arrested
A man was arrested Wednesday on drunken driving and other charges after a stolen van sped by a Brooklyn Park elementary school just as children were heading home from their first day of class, county police said yesterday.
Lonnie Johnson, 41, of the 1800 block of Arwell Court, Severn, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon as well as driving while intoxicated, driving on a suspended license and other traffic counts.
Officer A. J. Hatcher said he saw the brown van speed by Belle Grove Elementary School at 14 miles over the 30 mph speed limit at 2:45 p.m. He stopped the van and found it was reported stolen on Monday.
Officer Hatcher said he found a 4.5-inch steak knife under the driver's seat. Police said the man was wanted on an arrest warrant in connection with the stolen van.
